At the weekend before Xmas, we(Me and 3 of my friends) had a small cycling journey in The Road No.197 ,Taidong. You can see it in the map above. 197 was build along the Mt. Coast, almost 60 Km totally starting from Taidong to Cyrshanq.
Tour with bicycle is different from tour by bus. The main reason I loved cycling tour is: To bus, the journey become point to point……you move from A to B quickly, but the only thing you can do on bus is just sleeping…… But to bicycle, the journey became long and slow, it makes me to get enough time to find something detailed in the journey. The tour became a PROCESS but not just an ENDING.
An 3rd Triangle point. 三等三角點
I don’t know if is there something the same in UK. But this 3rd Triangle point was placed by the Japanese more than 50 years ago(Taiwan once became Japan’s territory from 18xx to 1945 ,more than 50 years).
Long long times ago, the placement of Triangle point is a mark to measure the land of territory, but now we use GPS. The Triangle point became a historical site.
Also, I check the position of this 3rd Triangle point with GPS:
The TaiDong City.
197 is not a main traffic line, there’re not many vehicle s running in this way.
In the opposite way of the river. It’s a big river in Taiwan: The River Bei-Narn.
The coconut tree and my friends in 197. It’s a sunny day, cool but not cold, maybe the winter in Taiwan is different from it in London.
There is a small Hot-Spring near by 197, that we call it Lih-Jyi利吉 Hot Spring. Its too small and secret, just a few people knows it. While I touched the water with my finger, Its just WARM, but not HOT.
That’s where the WARM water comes from.
The surface with rubble.
In the 60 km totally of 197, there are about 14 kms covered with rubbles. It is said the rubbles were covered on purpose.
Many years ago, like all the other roads in Taiwan, 197 was made by asphalt completely. But 197 was run through a forest protected area in Mt. Coast, to decreased people to enter the place, the local government cover it with rubbles.
That’s really a good idea to do that, 197 is still here, if you are in hurry or for some reasons, you can still pass it. In another way, to prevent too many people to enter this area, the rubble surface decreased the damage to the environment indeed.
Its about 16:00 pm, the ruble road is difficult to ride for bicycle. It takes 20 minutes for us to enter just 1 km, if we want to pass it, it may became dark and dangerous. So, we back to the starting place and pick my cell phone…..to deal with another friend: Shiau.
Mr. Shiau(He had a nickname: Little Black) had a bed n breakfast hotel in CyrShanq, That’s where we want to stay tonight. Than Little Black drive small truck to pick all of us to his hotel: not only 4 persons but also 4 bikes.
That’s why I said it’s a CHEAT journey.
At this night, Little Black treat us to a small restaurant for dinner. The right on is the cook in the restaurant, and the left one is her Vietnam partner.
Another morning in CyrShanq.
CyrShanq was famous by its rice: CyrShanq grows the best quality rice in Taiwan. At Japanese ages, only Japanese empire can had the best rice from CyiShanq.
At this season, the rice has just harvest, the farmer put the vegetable seeds in the rice-farm to become green-fertilizer to pass the winter. You can see both dried rice grass and green vegetables here in this picture.
My 3 friends on Little Black’s truck. You may say that Where is El?
I sit in the driving room beside Little Black.
That’s me: The right one.
You may notice that why I and Little Black wore the same clothes? That’s just because we belong to the same cycling team.
The Betel nut tree.
The Coconut tree.
The muddy ground, some small animals(maybe a mammal animal) just walk trough it.
Maybe its Monkey.
